ABOUT: SOUTH GIPPSLAND BASS SWIMMING CLUB

The South Gippsland Bass Swimming Club offers a dynamic coaching program that caters for a wide range of swimming development. From an introduction to squad and competitive swimming, through to State and National level programs.

SGB aims to provide an environment which enables each swimmer to develop to their maximum potential as not only a swimmer, but to also grow as a person.

SGB believes that this can be achieved by coaches, parents, committee and swimmers working together with the shared objective of encouragement, support and team comradeship to:

  1. understand the benefits of swimming beyond fitness and sportsmanship
  2. are aware of the many life skills learnt from participating in any highly competitive program, such as:
    • dedication
    • commitment
    • self-discipline
    • time management
    • support
    • respect

South Gippsland Bass Swimming Club is run by a Committee; comprised of dedicated parents who volunteer their time to ensure the clubs future success. SGB employs a team of qualified, and experienced coaches, and offers:

    • Graded training squads
    • Professional coaching staff and support staff
    • Competition for novice swimmers through to elite level swimmers
    • Constant evaluation of training groups
    • District, State and National level competition

Despite the rapid growth of SGB in recent years, a family type of atmosphere has been maintained throughout the club and SGB strives to continue to build this culture.

SGB runs camps, clinics and intraclub meets to improve swimmers performances and to also build bonds and friendships between swimmers and families; that will help continue to propel the club forward and create an environment that everyone wants to be a part of.

HISTORY: SOUTH GIPPSLAND BASS SWIMMING CLUB

The South Gippsland Bass swimming club was first incorporated in 1999. Starting from humble beginnings, the club was nurtured by previous Head Coach Ivan Moore, running a few sessions a week at the Wonthaggi indoor pool.  Ivan who was once the head coach of Nunawading Swim Club in the 1960’s, produced many talented swimmers at SGB before retiring at the conclusion of the 2011-12 season. Dylan Muir, former Assistant Coach to Ivan took up the position of Head Coach and continues to build the club with the help of the ever expanding coaching team and Committee.

South Gippsland Bass now has over 240 registered swimmers and the program has expanded to operate out of Wonthaggi and Leongatha pools. With squads from Development through to National level.

In recent years SGB has produced a number of Victorian finalists and medalists, National qualified swimmers and National finalists, along with a large host of 11 & under swimmers who have achieved a high standard at the Victorian Country 8-11 meet to be ranked among the best young swimmers in Victoria.

2022: SGB projected into a top Country Victorian Club. Finishing 5th at the Victorian Country Championships and 2nd at the Gippsland Championships. 2023: SGB jumped the rankings into a 3rd place finish at the Country Championships. 2025: SGB celebrated with 6th placed team score at the Victorian Sprint Championships.

2025 has seen the club gain registration as an Australian Masters Club and is excited to see what these swimmers can achieve.
