AUGUST CLUB NEWS

South Gippsland Bass Newsletter 8th August, 2017

Victorian Country Championships training session – Friday 11th August @ Leongatha

In the lead up to Country Champs it is always great to have a big training session as a team to create excitement and enthusiasm around the upcoming event. This Friday we will be running our usual training session at Leongatha for Country, State and National Squads with an emphasis on getting all swimmers competing at Country Champs to attend for a team hit out before the big event. We will be also using this training session to announce our captains for this season. These leaders have been chosen by the coaches to lead the club in and out of the water this season. We hope to see as many swimmers as possible there to congratulate our new captains for the 2017- 18 Season.

Training session Changes @ Leongatha

Tuesday @ Leongatha (in effect as of 15th August) Junior Squad training: 6.00pm – 7.00pm Country and Intermediate Squad training: 6.00pm – 7.30pm State Junior, State, Senior, National & National Dev. 7.00pm – 8.30pm

The session time change listed above for the Country and Intermediate Squad groups will be a 3 month trial period. The aim is to provide an early time to our younger swimmers, however, we need to be mindful as to not overcrowd our lanes which may become an issue as we approach the summer.

Friday @ Leongatha (in effect as of 11th August) Junior State, State, Senior, National Dev. & National Squad: Land based training: 5.00pm-5.30pm Pool session: 5.30pm-7.30pm

Land based is an important part of every swimming program and vital to strength development in our swimmers. Swimmers will need to bring skipping rope and a roller. A padded matt is also recommended.

All other times on Friday are as normal, including land based from 5-5.30pm for Country Squad swimmers.

Parents training session

All parents that sign up with Swimming Victoria under the competitive swimmer category ($162) will be able to participate in a free training session run for the parents each month throughout the season from September to March.

Sessions will be 1 hour in length and be run at both Wonthaggi and Leongatha. These sessions will generally be on Friday at Leongatha and Saturday at Wonthaggi. Dates will depend on the competition schedule.

We will be running an encouragement meet at Wonthaggi with Phillip Island Swimming Club and the Wonthaggi YMCA swim school on the 26th August.

This event is open to swimmers aged 12&under in the Country Squad, Intermediate Squad and Junior Squad only.

Events will include 25m of each stroke and the 100m Individual medley. Swimmers do not have to enter all races and will be able to choose races on the day.

9th August 2017 Cadbury Fundraiser – Get on board

Dear Families,

We’re about to kick off a fundraising drive to raise money for SGB.

It would be great if you could help. The good news is that this fundraiser is super simple…

and delicious.

Cadbury Fundraiser: we’re selling chocolate frog varieties

Every box of frogs we sell will raise $20.00. So, we’re asking all members of our club to sell at least one box for us. Feel free to grab another box if you’ve got lots of hungry buyers lined up!

Please collect your box of frogs from the pool during the week starting 4th August.

Tips for selling your treats

– Each item sells for $1.00. Each box is worth $50.

– Sell to family members, colleagues, friends or neighbours

Other useful information

Once you have sold the chocolates, to make it easier for the Club Committee to track who has returned their money, could you please directly deposit your total $ to the club account – BSB No 063553 Account no 10122858.

Please use your surname and choc’s as a reference ie smith choc

If you’re finding it hard to sell your box of treats, let Nerine Courtney or Leah Dal Pozzo know – other people may be able to help. Or, if you can’t help in this fundraising drive, please let us know as soon as possible.

Thank you for participating in this year’s chocolate drive to help raise much needed funds.

Thanks for your support,

Nerine Courtney
